We are extremely proud of many special features at our school, most of which were funded by the Calare community and provide increased opportunities and safety for students. These include:
- the magnificent library and annex
- interactive whiteboards
- the tiered learning centre
- the computer room
- the three large covered areas
- the open playground featuring the sandstone wall
- the fitness circuit, the bark and softfall play areas
- the adventure play equipment
- the administration area
Library
The school has a well - equipped library catering for the needs of all the children in the school. All classes have a set library lesson each week. The library is open each lunchtime to allow borrowing, quiet reading, browsing or for private research. K-4 students must have a library bag to borrow books. Kindergarten may borrow one (1) book, Year 1 to 4 two books and Years 5 and 6, three books.
The school participates in the Scholastic/Ashton Book Club scheme. Once a term children are able to purchase quality paperback books at a very reasonable price through the school. The school receives one bonus point for every dollar spent and this allows the school to obtain many free resources for the library.
Computer Room
The school has a computer room equipped with 17 iMac computers all of which are networked to a fileserver, the Internet and laser printers. The new library annex is also cabled for use with laptops or desktop computers.
In addition to this the students have access to a bank of 35 iBook laptop computers and each classroom has at least one iMac connected to the school network by means of Apple wireless airports. These computers are also connected to laser printers and the Internet.
Tiered Learning Centre
The Tiered Learning Centre is used for many activities and events in the school, including band tutorials, public speaking and debating, dance and audio-visual activities.
